Before Tiger Zinda Hai, here’s how Salman Khan’s last five films have performed at the box office

Tiger Zinda Hai starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif could safely be called the most-awaited film of the year. With Padmavati’s release date being deferred for an indefinite time, the Indian box-office is facing a dearth of star-studded projects and Tiger Zinda Hai could be the game-changer that the box-office needs right now. But before we delve into speculating how the Ali Abbas Zafar film will perform in the coming days, have a look at the collections of Bhai’s last five films:

Tubelight – Rs 119.26 crore

Even after being widely panned by critics, Salman Khan’s last release Tubelight, helmed by Kabir Khan, made it past the coveted Rs 100 crore. It is also one of the top-earning movies of the year so far. But that is no unusual feat for a Salman Khan starrer. In fact, before Tubelight, the last Salman film which collected less than Rs 200 crore was Dabangg 2 which came in 2012.

Sultan – Rs 300.45 crore

Helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar, 2016’s sports drama Sultan is Salman’s second highest grossers of all time with its collection of Rs 300.45 crore. Salman’s act as a middle-aged ex-wrestling champion in the film is also often touted as one of his better performances of the decade. That and his camaraderie with Anushka Sharma made Sultan break all records.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo – Rs 210.16 crore

Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya were a hit jodi back in the 90s. They have films like Maine Pyar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Kaun to their credit. So, when Sooraj decided to make his comeback with Salman Khan in 2015 with Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, it was bound to get fans’ attention. Also starring Sonam Kapoor, PRDP received mixed reviews from critics but when has that stopped a Salman Khan film from becoming a success? It collected a total of Rs 210.16 crore in its lifetime.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan – Rs 320.34 crore

Salman Khan’s 2015 release Bajrangi Bhaijaan was one of those rare films where Salman was not the center of attention throughout the 163 minutes. His limelight was ‘stolen’ by none other than child actor Harshali Malhotra. Bajrangi Bhaijaan was the perfect Bollywood-style fairytale where instead of being the swag-oozing Salman Bhai, Salman was the down-to-earth simpleton Bhaijaan. It is the highest grossing film of Salman of all time and has collected Rs 320.34 crore at the Indian box office.
